Norzagarai

Santiago Norzagarai makes authentic wines, with a clear sense of place. Based in Rioja Alavesa, north of the Ebro river in the Basque part of Rioja, the wines emphasise freshness, fruit and a marked Atlantic character.

Succulent, cool red berry profile with notes of violet, rose hip and forest floor, finishing with lip-smacking acidity and supple tannins. An elegant, expressive Rioja that puts the fruit front and centre, transmitting a real sense of place.

25% whole clusters are included with the ferment, and macerated for two weeks with only gentle pigeage to avoid extraction. Spends 10 months in neutral barrels before bottling.

carralciego

Carralciego

A field blend from the Carralciego plot of compact calcareous clay on a high, southeast-facing plateau. Roughly 85% tempranillo and 15% garnacha from 50+ year old vines. Structured and powerful, showing ripe blackberry, blueberry, plum and violet notes with subtle spice and tobacco undertones.

Fully destemmed and macerated on skins for 50 days with gentle pigeage to avoid over-extraction. Aged in used barrique for 15 months.

Norzagarai

Santiago Norzagarai makes authentic wines, with a clear sense of place. Based in Rioja Alavesa, north of the Ebro river in the Basque part of Rioja, the wines emphasise freshness, fruit and a marked Atlantic character. Norzagarai has sought out parcels in cooler parts of the subzone, with distinct differences in soil. He avoids over-extraction during vinification, and only uses neutral barrels, so as not to marr the fruit with oaky flavours. Each cuvée captures a different facet of the region. This is Rioja at its most elegant and sophisticated.
