classical quirky vino
From a selection of parcels around the Picariello estate, ranging from 500 to 650 m elevation. The parcels all face either northeast or southeast, in keeping with Picariello's lean, racy style.
This is essentially a declassified Fiano di Avellino. Slightly softer in style than its big sister, it shows bright, youthful fruit character and is perfect for drinking upon release.

A recent addition to the Picariello lineup, and named after his two children, Bruno and Emma. Yet another example of just how skilled a winemaker he is. Sourced from vineyards in Benevento, which at lower elevation can sometimes produce falanghina with flabby tendencies, this is anything but.
Lean, smoky and with pronounced mineral cut, this falanghina stands head and shoulders above the rest.

The vineyards for this wine are located in the highly-regarded Summonte and Montefredane areas in Avellino, at between 500 and 650m elevation. Here the soil is clay and sandstone, with a distinct volcanic component. Exposition is southeast and northeast, avoiding the sun in the warmest part of the day in order to preserve Picariello's distinctive racy character.
A wonderful example of possibly Italy's finest and most age-worthy white variety, Picariello's Fiano di Avellino is a delight when young, but will age gracefully for ten years or more.

Cult winery Picariello makes some of the best and most ageworthy fiano in Italy. More recently falanghina and greco vines have been planted, completing the trifecta of Campanian white varieties.
With vineyards in the prized Summonte and Montefredana areas in the Avellino region – distinctly cool-climate, high-elevation areas – Picariello’s hands-off approach to winemaking allows the nuances of the vineyards to reveal themselves. In youth, the fiano shows typical bright lemon and white peach flavours with a distinct mineral cut from the volcanic soils, but with a bit of age it develops waxy, honeyed aromas and a toasted hazelnut character. With wines like this, it’s easy to see why Campania is Italy’s greatest white wine region.
