Testalonga Bianco

Nino’s Vermentino comes from thirty year old vines planted over clay and limestone amongst his olive groves. It spends four days on skins and is aged in old casks. An old-school Mediterranean white, where the use of skins and a little oxygen provide depth, grip and saline complexity. Reflecting the freshness of the vintage, this is crunchy and full of citrus and asks for sunshine and some nice fish.

Dolceacqua

From Rossese vines up to one hundred years old planted over clay and limestone in the famed Arcagna vineyard, high in the hills above Dolceacqua. The wine making here is old-school and the grapes are fermented with whole bunches for a fortnight before being foot stomped and left to spend a year in old casks. It is a wine that feels resolutely Mediterranean, pairing bright, sun kissed fruit with a lifted, herbaceous note which calls to mind the garrigue of these hills.

Nino Perrino is a real artisan wine maker. He started working the family vineyards (a few terraces on the hills near the village of Dolceacqua) in the 60s, and since then nothing has changed. All the work is done by hand, no chemical intervention and the only protocol in vinification is that there is no protocol: the grapes are foot trodden, no destemming, spontaneous fermentation with wild yeasts and no temperature control and the ageing is done in very old 500lt casks. These are truly fascinating wines, a pure expression of the local terroir and totally immune to any fashion. In the last few years Nino has been flanked by his niece Erica, so the legacy of this legend will not be lost
