Langhe Nebbiolo

Forward and inviting, with generous red cherry, sweet herb and dried rose aromas. Plenty of texture and lively red berry flavours that linger on the finish.

The fruit for this wine comes from the youngest vines, making it in essence a declassified Barbaresco.

Vino Rosso 'Bondonio'

The Barbera d'Alba DOC by Olek Bondonio is a wine made from grapes that come from a 30-year-old vineyard. Ferments with the skins for two weeks and refines for 24 months in large barrels and steel. It is a broad-shouldered barbera, where acidity, tannin and fruit come out strongly. A wine with character, it releases energy but also elegance and cleanliness.

Vino Rosso 'Giulietta'

100% Pelaverga Piccolo. Bondonio has the only plantation of Pelaverga Piccolo, considered the highest-quality iteration of this variety, outside of the commune of Verduno, whence it hails—and it happens to be planted in the Roncagliette vineyard, by his grandfather. (You can see the hill on which Castello di Verduno sits only a stone’s throw away from this Pelaverga parcel.) Fermented in a mix of stainless steel and concrete, depending on the vintage; a short élevage is done in neutral barrels afterward. Unfined, unfiltered, with moderate amounts of SO2 (10-20ppm max) added just before bottling. This is probably the most deeply red-fruited and mineral Pelaverga we know, not nearly as rustic and peppery as many others in the region. Gorgeous.

Olek Bondonio

At only 3.5 hectares, Olek Bondonio’s Barbaresco estate is small, but it allows him to do everything on his own. His approach epitomises the saying that great wine is made in the vineyard. This is especially true when your holdings include part of Roncagliette, a steep, south-western amphitheatre of vines that is also home to Gaja’s Sorì Tilden and Costa Russi plots. Olek works organically, though without certification. Fermentations are spontaneous and carried out in concrete, with ageing for his top wines in Slavonian oak botti. His meticulous attention to detail shows in these generous, traditionally-framed wines that are a tribute to old Piemonte, and he has quickly become one of the darlings of Barbaresco. As production is small, we have only limited quantities of these exceptional wines.
