Monte dei Roari

Run by Alessia and Stefano Bertaiola, this 10-hectare estate just south of Lake Garda is a collection of small parcels on calcareous and iron-rich clay soils of morainic origin. . The wines are made from the traditional Custoza and Bardolino blends, and they all share an utterly charming breezy freshness

pinot grigio

Pinot Grigio

Pinot grigio, but make it biodynamic! All the typical pinot grigio characteristics are here: apple, peach, soft white floral notes and a gentle hint of almond. We think Alessia's version has a touch more concentration and a bit more verve than the average bottle - the hallmarks of an artisan wine.

Pinot Grigio Ramato

Taking advantage of pinot grigio's natural bronzy hue, Alessia macerates the grapes with their skins for several days to produce this total stunner. Somewhere between a rosé and an orange wine, expect exuberant flavours of wild strawberry, rose hip and quince cut through by lifted acidity. Pinot grigio for people who don't like pinot grigio!

chiaretto

Bardolino Chiaretto

A typical style of rosé from this region, Bardolino Chiaretto is made by bleeding the juice from a tank of corvina and rondinella grapes after a short maceration. Fresh, breezy and crunchy red-berried fruit notes with pleasant citrusy acidity.

(Nerd alert: chiaretto is a translation of 'claret', a reference to the fact that, centuries ago, Bordeaux was far paler in colour than it is today!)

Monte dei Roari

Run by Alessia and Stefano Bertaiola, this 10-hectare estate just south of Lake Garda is a collection of small parcels on calcareous and iron-rich clay soils of morainic origin. Alessia’s background is in agricultural research, so she’s only too aware of the amount of chemicals used in conventional viticulture. Taking over the Monte dei Roari estate, she painstakingly converted each plot to organic and biodynamic farming over the last decade. The wines are made from the traditional Custoza and Bardolino blends, and they all share an utterly charming breezy freshness.
