La Marca di San Michele

The village of Cupramontana sits between the eastern foothills of the Apennines and the Adriatic Sea, where the land is criss-crossed with rivers and valleys carrying cooling breezes inland. This is the historical heartland of verdicchio production, the Classico zone for Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi.

saltatempo

'Saltatempo'

Made from blend of fruit from the different parcels of the estate, Saltatempo is the perfect introduction to verdicchio in a youthful, fruit-driven style. Generous and inviting on the nose, it is redolent of peach, ripe apple and grapefruit with a hint of bitterness. The palate is beautifully textured and full, with plenty of freshness.

The tank-aged Capovolto bursts with generous pink grapefruit and red apple aromas, underlined by hints of almond. Dense and savoury on the nose, it nonetheless carries the estate’s trademark bright aromatics and precise minerality. Richly textured yet refined, with hints of pine nut and chamomile, Passolento is serious stuff and it shows how classy verdicchio can be in the right hands.

La Marca di San Michele

The village of Cupramontana sits between the eastern foothills of the Apennines and the Adriatic Sea, where the land is criss-crossed with rivers and valleys carrying cooling breezes inland. This is the historical heartland of verdicchio production, the Classico zone for Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi, named after the fortified medieval towns clustered near the hills. La Marca di San Michele cultivate 10 hectares of vines here, working organically in the vineyards and using indigenous yeasts and minimum sulphur in the cellar.

One of Italy’s most aristocratic white varieties, verdicchio expresses exuberant orchard fruit with a tinge of almond bitterness in its youth, but with age it develops intensely nutty and savoury characteristics. So often it is made in a style that is simple and quaffable, not expressing its true potential. In the capable hands of Alessandro, Beatrice and Daniela, these are some of the most vibrant, exciting wines being made in Italy today.
