brunello casaccia

Brunello di Montalcino 'La Casaccia'

La Casaccia represents a new chapter in this estate's long history. A single-vineyard expression from the Canalicchio area, one of the most interesting subzones on the northeast side of Montalcino. The parcel is a little over two hectares, with dense, mineral-rich clay soils that lend power to the wine.

Founded in the early 1960s, their first wine was released in 1966, and the following year they were one of the 12 founding members of the Consorzio del Vino Brunello di Montalcino. It is this kind of quality-focussed, forward thinking that marks Canalicchio as one of the greats. That, and their location on the northern slope of the hill of Montalcino, where the wines balance power with finesse. Francesco Ripaccioli has emerged as one of the stand-out winemakers of Montalcino, crafting powerful, classic-leaning wines loaded with personality. Even in challenging years, the wines do not disappoint.
