06-Cuvee-automne-petit

'Cuvee d'Automne'

A blend of savagnin from blue marls and chardonnay from lighter clay and limestone soils in Pupillin. Some of the savagnin has been aged under flor, and some has undergone normal oxidative ageing in barrel, while chardonnay adds lifted acidity and a bright mineral streak. Beautifully complex, balancing youthful fruit aromas with a spicy character and showing fantastic depth and concetration.

05-Savagnin-petit

Savagnin

The classic Jura white variety, restrained and gently aromatic with lovely mineral cut and a tendency to develop savoury spicy notes. Domaine de la Pinte have chosen to age this wine without allowing any oxidation (called ‘ouillé’, it means the barrels are topped up in the traditional way of making white wine) that is often seen in other savagnin cuvées from the region. This allows the terroir to express itself more clearly: the wine tastes of where it’s from, rather than of winemaking. And what a little stunner this wine is! Delicate quince and blossom notes underscored by savoury iodine minerality, hints of smoke and a toasty hazelnut core, all carried by bright but not piercing acidity.

Poulsard 'Pinte Bien'

A sappy, vivacious red showing notes of hibiscus and red currant with breezy tannins. From a single 20-year-old just next to the winery. The name is a play on words combining the name of the estate with the local phrase ‘pinte bien’ meaning ‘enjoy your drink’!

07-Vin-jaune-petit

Vin Jaune

If the original aim of Roger Martin was to produce an outstanding quality vin jaune, we’d say he succeeded and then some. Savagnin grown on blue marls is aged for six years in large old barrels under a layer (or ‘voile’) of yeast. A wine of excellent depth, with a sheer juiciness reserved on the long, stimulating and spicy finish, where a pleasant yeastiness contributes even more complexity.

Domaine de la Pinte

Founded in 1953, Domaine de la Pinte covers 34 hectares of vineyards just below Pupillin that are rich in the prized blue marl of the Arbois region. The vineyards had been allowed to go fallow, allowing the founder and father of the current owner, Pierre Martin, to plant plenty of savagnin, which is well-suited to these heavy soils. In 1999 the estate was converted to organic farming, followed in 2009 by biodynamics. The attention to detail in the vineyard and the resulting health of the vines is apparent throughout the range of wines produced here, and the judicious use of large old barrels for ageing imparts a gorgeous breadth and silkiness without marring the wines with oak flavours. This is a domaine at the very top of its game, and rightly placed among the very best of the appellation.
